The Inspiration

Copper is an essential nutrient and a cofactor for tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in the body’s natural production of melanin, the pigment that contributes to the color of our skin, hair, and eyes.

Handcrafted from a single strand of soft, pure copper wire, the Melanin Copper Cuff™ features a gold-plated Africa-shaped centerpiece honoring our origin story and the connection between copper and melanin.

As the Melanin Copper Cuff and pendant ages, it sets with your body chemistry and naturally develops a deeper, aged patina, giving each cuff the character of a treasured heirloom. 

Wonder Woman had her magical bracelets. Now, the Black Dolls have theirs.

Fitting Your Cuff

The cuff is substantial enough to hold its shape while remaining flexible enough to adjust comfortably around your wrist.

Your cuff arrives pre-shaped with hooked ends. To customize the fit:

  1. Gently unhook the ends.
  2. Shape the cuff around your wrist.
  3. If shortening is necessary, use proper jewelry wire cutters, not tweezers.
  4. Use jewelry pliers to form each cut end into a smooth, fully closed loop.
  5. Check carefully for sharp or unfinished edges before wearing.

Please note: This bracelet is symbolic jewelry. It is not intended to alter melanin production, treat copper deficiency, or diagnose, prevent, or treat any medical condition.

 Cleaning Your Cuff:  If you wear your cuff daily and never take it off, just rinse gently with lukewarm water now and then, pat dry and avoid harsh soaps and chemicals. Over time it will develop a natural patina that tells your story. If you wear it occasionally, wipe it with a soft cloth after each wear, store it dry and use mild soap and water only when needed. No polishing required or unless you really want extra shine. Let it age like a memory or keep it bright—your call. Avoid soaking the gold-plated charm. 

  • For a Brighter Look: Clean with lemon juice and salt to restore a brilliant shine.
  • Natural Look: Wipe with a soft damp cloth and let it dry.
  • For a Natural, Lived-In Finish: Don’t clean it at all. Let the copper become part of your life essence, absorbing your natural oils, scent, moisture, and the traces of everyday living. Over time, it only gets better, deepening, softening, and developing a patina that is uniquely yours.
  • Aged Heirloom Look: Don't clean at all and let it age.
